Primary Curriculum Review

In December Sir Jim Rose's interim report for
the Review of the Primary Curriculum was
published. Disappointingly the seven Areas
of Learning model, which included a
dedicated section for Design and Technology
(as shown by Mick Waters at the Design and
Technology conference in June 2008) had
been replaced by a six Area model.

Digital Design and Technology Programme

The new Digital DT Programme has grown
out of the CAD/CAM in Schools and the
Electronics in Schools Strategy. It aims to
develop a coherent support programme for
teachers involved with CAD/CAM and ECT,
reflecting the changing requirements of the
curriculum at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
and the STEM Agenda.

SWOT ANALYSIS OF ALTERNATIVES:
Three scenarios were considered as the most likely outcomes of these discussions:

i. Continued close working relationship of separate associations
ii. NAAIDT fades and eventually is likely to fold
iii. NAAIDT merges with D&TA in England – across the 4 nations this arrangement can be expected to vary
