NAAIDT Buildings Development Consultants Register

Within a climate of many potential new building initiatives (eg BSF, PFI), NAAIDT is aware of the importance that the specialist advice, guidance and influence made available to contractors during the planning stages has a significant impact – positive as well as negative – on the success of D&T teaching and learning over the next 25+ years.

Licence to Cook

From September 2008, all secondary age students in England will have an “entitlement to cook”. This was announced by Alan Johnson in 2006 as a part of a package of measures to “embed the school food revolution for the long term and help tackle childhood obesity”.

Lady Parkes

Colleagues may be aware that Lady Margaret Parkes died recently.

From the President

Colleagues, it is an honour to take over the position of President and I would like formally to record my thanks to John Chidgey for his year as President. Last year was a very busy year for John, and I am sure that the Association will be just as busy this year responding on your behalf to the plethora of issues that we know are going to impact on design and technology.

From the President

Interesting times . . .

Primary Curriculum Review

the Review of the Primary Curriculum was
published. Disappointingly the seven Areas
of Learning model, which included a
dedicated section for Design and Technology
(as shown by Mick Waters at the Design and
Technology conference in June 2008) had
been replaced by a six Area model.

Digital Design and Technology Programme

The new Digital DT Programme has grown
out of the CAD/CAM in Schools and the
Electronics in Schools Strategy. It aims to
develop a coherent support programme for
teachers involved with CAD/CAM and ECT,
reflecting the changing requirements of the
curriculum at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
and the STEM Agenda.
